TRAIN operator Northern – which runs services on the Airedale line – is reminding carers that they are eligible for cut-price travel.
They can receive a 25 per cent discount on tickets bought in advance.
Northern has issued the reminder to coincide with Carers Week, which runs until Sunday (June 16).
The saving – available on all the operator's services – is delivered in partnership with Network, a company specialising in employee discounts and benefits.
Stuart Taylor, head of commercial development at Northern, says: "There are 5.7 million unpaid carers in the UK providing essential support to friends or family members.
"With their thoughts focussed on the welfare of others, it’s easy for those providing care to forget they themselves are eligible for support.
"Carers, both paid and unpaid, do an amazing job and we’re happy to support them by offering this special discount on their journeys."
As part of the same scheme, the company also offers a 25 per cent discount on advance purchase tickets to NHS workers, teachers and employees of registered charities.
Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, running 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the north of England.
