A BALL is being staged to raise funds for a pioneering mastectomy tattoo charity.

The event – on Saturday, July 13 – is in support of the Nipple Innovation Project (NIP), which provides free realistic 3D nipple tattoos to breast cancer survivors who have undergone mastectomies.

Founded in 2018 by Cullingworth woman Lucy Thompson, the charity – the first of its kind in the UK – works with a team of specially-trained tattoo artists across the British Isles.

Earlier this year, it announced a partnership with Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to provide its expertise to patients at St Luke's in the city who have undergone breast cancer surgery.

The fundraising Glitz The Nip ball – which takes place at The Arches, Dean Clough, Halifax – is being spearheaded by two Keighley businesses, MyDentist Keighley and K&Co Events, based at Mantra House.

Both Chris and Katie Luxford – of K&Co Events – and Connor Brett, from MyDentist Keighley, who are leading on the organising, have close relatives who've been impacted by breast cancer.

"We have teamed-up to host the night to help increase awareness of breast cancer and raise money for this wonderful charity," says Katie.

"It promises to be a fantastic night. Lots of businesses from across the area – including Keighley, Skipton, Silsden and Cross Hills – have got involved, which is just amazing.

"Local businesses have also sponsored tickets for us to then gift them to people who have battled breast cancer, or are going through treatment, or for their loved ones or the professionals who work with breast cancer patients day-in day-out."

The ball, which is from 6.30pm, has a Great Gatsby theme.

It will include a welcome drink on arrival, a three-course meal, live entertainment, casino tables, a raffle and auctions.

Tickets are £65, or £550 for tables of ten.

A spokesperson for NIP says: "Prepare to be transported back to the roaring twenties!

"The local community is at the heart of this event, and has been heavily involved – including stepping forward as sponsors for the ball, demonstrating its commitment to supporting NIP's mission.

"Glitz The Nip promises to be a night of unforgettable fun, filled with glamour and heartwarming stories, and is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of breast cancer survivors."
