KEIGHLEY Trade Union Council (TUC) is attending one of the biggest galas of its kind in the world.

The organisation has arranged free coach travel to the Durham Miners' Gala, which takes place on Saturday, July 13.

Keighley TUC says a limited number of places are still available on the coach, and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

This year's gala, which marks the 40th anniversary of the miners' strike, has the theme Solidarity Forever.

Stephen Guy, chair of Durham Miners' Association, says: "It was solidarity within our mining communities and from the wider Labour movement that sustained the strike against all odds for a year. It is this solidarity that will enable us as a movement and a class to meet the challenges of today.

"Forty years on from the strike, the gala hasn't just survived, but is thriving. It's an inspiring spectacle and a beacon of hope."

The coach will depart from Keighley at 8am. Approximate time of arrival in Durham is 10.30am.

Departure from Durham for the return journey is at 5.30pm prompt, and the coach is expected back in Keighley at 8pm.
