SOLAR panels have been installed at a popular community building.

Oxenhope Climate Action spearheaded the initiative, at the village's community centre.

Funding for the project was provided through the West Yorkshire mayor's climate community grant scheme, and approved by Keighley Area Committee.

"We've been concerned for some time about the cost of energy bills so we’re delighted that these solar panels will bring down our costs and help combat climate change," says Tony Maw, chair of Oxenhope Community Association.

The panels were installed by Keighley-based Clever Energy Solar.

Company director, Jon Broadbent, said: "We fit solar panels and EV chargers all over Yorkshire but it’s always great to be working in my home village!"

People will be able to see the system in action and learn more about renewable energy at a free drop-in event being staged at the community centre on Saturday, September 21, between 2pm and 4.30pm.

Oxenhope Climate Action was founded in early 2022 by a group of residents concerned about the effects of climate change.

Members raise awareness and support and initiate projects to reduce carbon emissions and other causes of climate change.
