UNINSURED drivers are being targeted in a crackdown launched by West Yorkshire Police.
In the coming weeks, roads policing officers – working with district teams – will operate at locations across the region, as part of an initiative being staged in partnership with the Motor Insurance Bureau.
Uninsured vehicles will be seized and action pursued against offenders.
Chief Inspector James Farrar, head of West Yorkshire roads policing unit, says: "Working with the Motor Insurance Bureau will allow us to dedicate additional time and resources and focus our efforts on the dangers posed by those people irresponsible enough to take to our roads in a vehicle without insurance.
"This will enable us to have a targeted approach to identifying and removing uninsured vehicles from roads across the county.
“We'll be focusing on areas with the highest levels of uninsured driving in order to maximise our impact."
He adds: "Data shows a clear link between uninsured drivers and other offences, including theft and drugs-related crime.
"By focusing on the danger posed by uninsured drivers it is hoped that officers will not only remove the threat they present to other road users, but also disrupt wider criminality and anti-social behaviour in our communities."
