AN inaugural Keighley Festival of Sport takes place next month.

Free sports activities for people of all ages will be on offer, between August 3-10.

Clubs and organisations will stage sessions, taster activities and open days.

Those involved include Keighley & Craven Athletic Club, Keighley Amateur Boxing Club, Keighley Kobras and Keighley Phoenix badminton clubs, Beanland Taekwon-Do, Keighley Albion amateur rugby league club, Riddlesden Tennis Club, Strong Medicine Club strength training, England Netball and Bradford, Keighley & Skipton Disability Athletics.

The festival – being spearheaded by Keighley Town Council – will kick off with a climbing tower at a Play in Parks event at Victoria Park on Saturday, August 3, between 11am and 3pm.

Councillor Mohammed Muazzam, chair of the town council's events and community development committee, says: "We hope as many people as possible take part in the festival, and that it sparks an interest in joining a local sporting club or organisation.

"We all know the social, mental and physical benefits of doing more exercise. We hope the schedule of activities will highlight the great work local clubs do and encourage people to participate, during the festival and beyond."
