AROUND 500 competition classes will be on offer at this year's Keighley Show, say organisers.

Planning is well underway for the annual extravaganza, taking place at Marley playing fields on Saturday, September 7.

And Keighley & District Agricultural Show Society stresses that a huge range of interests is catered for.

"You don’t have to own an animal to get involved!" said a spokesperson.

"Why not consider showcasing your creative skills? There are lots of prizes, cups and rosettes to be won."

The handicraft section includes classes for hand-knitted, crocheted or sewn items, alongside 'hard' crafts – such as wood, metal and pottery.

In art there are categories including watercolours, pen or pencil drawings, and oil/acrylic paintings, plus photography.

A produce section features classes covering a range of baked items, and homemade preserves.

Children’s handicraft and baking has 14 classes across two age groups – seven and under, and eight-to-15-year-olds – plus a pre-school class for decorated paper plates.

Flower arranging also features, including two categories specifically for children.

Groups, comprising adults or youngsters, are invited to enter any item created collectively for a community project award.
