A WELL-known Keighley man who ran a business in the town and was heavily involved in the community has died aged 79.
Graham Staines was educated at Keighley Boys' Grammar School, and was a graduate of Bradford and Glasgow universities.
He was a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.
In the 1970s he worked for Reckitt and Colman as a marketing executive in Hull and London, and as marketing director in Nairobi, where he lived for five years.
Returning to the UK, Graham became export marketing director in the company's household division for the Caribbean and Middle East.
In 1981 he returned to Keighley and took over the family business of Towler and Staines Ltd, bottled gas distributors. He set up branches in Skipton and Bradford.
Graham was a member of Keighley Round Table and a Rotarian.
He also served as a governor at Keighley College, with a keen interest in the development of careers within the construction industry.
An active sportsman throughout his life, he was a member of Keighley Golf Club.
And he had a passion for travel, having visited over 50 countries.
Graham is survived by his wife Brenda, daughter Alix, son-in-law James and grandson Nicky.
A service to celebrate his life takes place at St Luke’s Church, East Morton, on Monday, July 22, at 11.45am.
