KEIGHLEY-district students heading to university or college this autumn are being urged to ensure their vaccinations are up to date.

Regional health chiefs say it's not too late for students who may have missed out on vaccines during their school days to catch up.

Dr Faisel Baig, the region's NHS medical director for primary care, says: "If anyone thinks they may have missed some routine childhood or adolescent vaccinations – including the MenACWY vaccine, which protects against meningitis – it's really important they check their vaccination status with their general practice or school immunisation team.

"Ensuring students are fully vaccinated well before they head off to university or college is so important.

"Meningitis is rare, but can be extremely serious."
