PLANS have been confirmed for the relocation of a village post office.

The current Riddlesden branch, in Bar Lane, will shut its doors for the final time on Monday, August 19, at 5pm.

And it will open in newly-built premises at Londis, 294-298 Bradford Road, on Wednesday, August 28, at 1pm.

The branch, which will be renamed Stockbridge Post Office, will include a convenience store.

It will be run by the same postmaster, Bal Singh.

There will be a 40-space car park, including designated disabled bays.

Post Office Ltd says there will be an extra 33 hours' service each week, compared to the current provision.

A spokesperson said: "There will be two serving positions – one screened, and the other open plan. The screened counter will offer the full range of post office services and will be open from 8am-8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am-6pm on Sundays, whilst the open plan counter – providing selected services – will operate between 7am and 10pm Monday to Sunday.

"The new premises are approximately 400 metres from the current branch. With any relocation it is inevitable that whilst some customers will have an easier journey to the new location, regrettably others will have further to travel. In terms of pedestrian access, there are well maintained pavements, with dropped kerbs along the route from the present site."

The company says that during the interim period between the closure of the current branch and the opening of the new one, facilities will be available at alternative branches including Keighley Post Office, in Towngate, and the Oakworth Road premises.
