AN annual challenge day in support of Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice Manorlands raised £53,000.

The event saw 27 teams from various companies tackle a series of activities – including clay pigeon shooting, Land Rover handling, archery, Zorb football and an 'arm sweeper' game.

It was the 14th challenge day to be held in aid of the hospice at the Coniston Hotel Country Estate & Spa, Coniston Cold.

In addition to the challenge itself, there was a cooked breakfast sponsored by clothing brand Brook Taverner, lunch at the Coniston shooting lodge and a hog roast supper – topped off with cheese and biscuits, sponsored by AWB Charlesworth Solicitors.

Hotel director Louise Bolton says the event, organised by the Manorlands challenge committee, is a highlight of the year for the venue.

She added: "We are always incredibly proud to host the annual Coniston Challenge Day.

"Sue Ryder Manorlands hospice holds a special place in our hearts, and we are deeply committed to supporting this wonderful charity.

"A heartfelt 'thank you' goes to all the sponsors, participating teams, our activity providers, the Coniston team and the Manorlands challenge committee for such a fantastic fundraising event!"

Overall winner of the challenge was a team from insurance society NFU Mutual, with Barclays second.

Harriet Wood, senior fundraiser at Manorlands, pays tribute to the hotel for its support.

She says: "Simply put, the crucial funds that this event raises would not be possible without the unwavering support and incredible generosity shown by the Coniston Hotel and Bannister family.

"It really is one of the best days in the calendar, and the fact we get the same guests returning year on year speaks volumes. The feedback is always so amazing.

"This success is largely down to the hard-working and dedicated team at Coniston, which always goes above and beyond.

"This is a unique fundraising opportunity for us to benefit from, as 100 per cent of the funds go directly to the care we provide, and a 'thank you' will never seem enough.

"If you haven't experienced the event for yourself yet, then what are you waiting for? Please get in touch to book your place for next year – July 3, 2025!"
