A BAFTA-nominated comedy drama is the latest offering from Keighley Film Club.
Scrapper – which has a 12A certificate, and runs for 84 minutes – features 12-year-old Georgie, played by Lola Campbell, who lives alone in a London council flat whilst keeping up a pretence to Social Services that her dead mother is still caring for her.
"Georgie's lifestyle is disrupted by the unexpected arrival of her estranged father Jason – played by Harris Dickinson," says Alan Watkinson, for the film club.
"He wants to resurrect his role as her father, though she stubbornly resists his paternal attempts. And they are both reluctant to accept their differing roles that this would entail. They don't trust each other, so can they make the adjustments necessary?
"Scrapper has the ingredients of familial arguments, a police chase and lingering doubts about Jason's capacity to be an appropriate father."
The movie – written and directed by Charlotte Regan – premiered at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, where it won the Grand Jury Prize.
The club screening is at the Picture House, in North Street, Keighley, on Sunday, September 15.
The programme will start with a locally-made short film at 6pm. Doors open at 5.30pm.
