FINAL preparations are underway for this year's Keighley Show.

The popular annual extravaganza takes place at Marley playing fields on Saturday, September 7.

A host of attractions is lined up for the event, which runs from 8am-5.30pm.

Main-ring entertainment will include the Mighty Smith Show.

It features Adrian Smith, a three-times winner of the UK Strongest Man competition, who will present a family show with visual humour and audience participation.

His feats include tearing-up catalogues, bending six-inch nails in his teeth, lifting Atlas stones and pulling vehicles.

SMJ Falconry will be attending with a selection of its birds of prey, for static and flying displays. Visitors will be able to learn more about the birds’ features and abilities, and there are related games and quizzes for children.

West Riding Wood Turners will demonstrate their skills.

And youngsters from Showkids Dance and Performing Arts will display their talents.

A wide range of equestrian classes will run throughout the day, including heavy horses, with entries open to Shires, Clydesdales, Percheron and Suffolk Punch. And making a return after an absence of several years are decorated heavy horses in harness.

Ever-popular terrier racing is back, plus there will be a ferret show and racing, and a fun dog show. Entry to the ferret and dog shows is on the day.

There will be an array of vintage and classic cars courtesy of the Craven Old Wheels Society, and an extensive display of vintage tractors.

Other attractions across the showground will include children’s amusements, trade stalls, a licensed bar and catering stands.

In addition to the traditional agricultural showing sections for cattle and sheep, there are around 60 classes in handicrafts, art, photography, baking and produce, and flower arranging, and more than 100 classes in the horticulture section.

Thanks to support from Keighley Town Council, ticket prices for the show have been pegged at the same level as last year – £5 for everyone aged 16 and over.

Admission is free for under-16s accompanied by a paying adult.

Free parking will be available adjacent to the showground, subject to availability, but people are encouraged where possible to use public transport.

A free vintage bus service – provided by Keighley Bus Museum Trust – will operate regularly throughout the day between Hanover Street and the showground, via the college car park in Dalton Lane and the railway station.
