A CLUB has won national praise.

Haworth Central Park Bowling Club has been recognised for two projects staged to boost people's physical and mental health.

The Bowls4Health and Bowls4Fun initiatives saw bowling sessions, for people of all abilities, held weekly.

Funding was provided by Keighley and Worth Valley Community Partnership.

The venture has been commended by the British Crown Green Bowling Association during a visit to the club by executive board members.

"They praised the 'innovative' approach taken in reaching out to the local community – 220 adults and 330 children have benefited from the sessions," said a club spokesperson.

Jim McGurk, for the association, attributed the success of the scheme to "Haworth’s fantastic coaches and volunteers".

The Haworth bowling club was formed in 1932, and was originally located at Spring Head Road.

It relocated to Central Park in 1937.

New members are welcome.
