AN award-winning independent bookshop has a packed programme of events lined up for next month.
Activities planned by Wave of Nostalgia, in Main Street, Haworth, range from talks by authors to a charity fundraiser.
The schedule kicks off on Saturday, September 7, with a monthly community coffee morning for lovers of LGBTQ fiction. Everyone is welcome to attend the event, in the shop's Book Cellar space from 11.30am.
And later that day, at 2pm, there is a family afternoon tea – including homemade cakes and prizes – to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. Tickets are £4, with all proceeds going to the charity.
On the evening of Wednesday, September 11, multi-award-winning author Charlotte Mendelson will talk about her acclaimed new novel Wife – a follow up to The Exhibitionist.
Wave of Nostalgia owner, Diane Park, says: "Wife is an acutely observed and coruscating novel about the joys of passionate love and motherhood, and those left behind in its wake when passion curdles.
"It is heartbreaking and funny, profound and gripping, as it takes the reader from the end of a relationship to its beginning, and back again."
On Friday, September 20, at 7pm, best-selling historical novelist Annie Garthwaite will be returning to the village after her sold-out event in 2021 which featured her first novel Cecily – the story of Cecily Neville, wife of the leader of the Yorkists in the War of the Roses.
This time she will showcase her new book, The King’s Mother. It continues the story, focusing on Cecily's role as the mother of two famous kings – Henry IV and Richard III.
The month's programme culminates with an event spotlighting The Happy Nomad, the story of how Charlotte Bradman escaped a turbulent past and mounting debts to pursue a simpler way of life, living full-time in her beloved campervan. The event is on Wednesday, September 25, at 7pm.
Diane says: "We always have great author events, and in September we have three of the best, but it's particularly exciting to be doing something for the community too and in aid of such a worthwhile charity – Breast Cancer Research. Do come along and take part – everyone is welcome.
"For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth, the author events will also be shared on Zoom."
