A FINAL rallying call has been issued for the public to support this year's Keighley Show.

And visitors are being encouraged to consider using public transport for the journey to and from the showground.

The event takes place next Saturday (September 7) at Marley playing fields.

A free vintage bus service – provided by Keighley Bus Museum Trust – will operate throughout the day between Hanover Street and the venue, via the college car park in Dalton Lane and the railway station.

For those arriving by car, show organisers warn there will be some changes this year to parking arrangements on the upper level of the site owing to work currently being carried out on a crumbling section of River Aire banking, on the edge of the playing fields.

A spokesperson says: "Due to the works, car parking on the upper level will be in a different position to previous years.

"Everyone is asked to take careful notice of signage and parking stewards, or consider leaving the car at home and making use of public transport.

"The free vintage bus service will operate regularly throughout the day."

The show runs from 8am to 5.30pm.

Admission is £5. Under-16s accompanied by a fee-paying adult are admitted free.

The usual host of attractions is lined up.

Entries are invited on the day for a fun dog show. Classes will include the waggiest tail, most appealing eyes and best rescue dog. Anyone wishing to enter their pet should report to the dog show area between 10am and 10.45am.

Ferret entries are also taken on show day, no later than 10.30am.

In response to popular demand, the equestrian section has introduced a ridden hunter horse/pony class. Entries may be accepted on the day, if the horse/pony is already entered in another class. Prize money is up for grabs in all classes and championships. And for the first time, a Champion of Champions will be chosen, with £200 to be awarded, courtesy of Moorside Rug Wash.

The sheep section will see around 100 animals exhibited, with competition likely to be tough across the breed classes.

A 'grand raffle' will also take place, with prizes including an overnight stay for two – with breakfast – at the Coniston Hotel, Coniston Cold; £250 worth of Sainsbury’s vouchers, and a Land Rover driving experience. The draw will be at 3.30pm.
