AN event held to mark a well-known Keighley shop's 60th anniversary has been hailed as a success.

The TV Dulux dog made a special appearance at the celebration, at H Brook DIY, in Lawkholme Lane.

Other attractions included discounts for the day on a range of products, champagne, the chance for people to win their own cuddly Dulux dog and a room makeover, and freebies from suppliers.

Guests included Keighley MP Robbie Moore and town mayor Councillor Gulfraz Hussain.

And former employees were also present.

A special birthday cake was made by Three Little Birds Bakery, based in Cavendish Street, Keighley.

H Brook DIY director, Andrew Brook, says: "The event was really well supported by many of our loyal customers and guests.

"We are proud to celebrate this anniversary. There can’t be many independent shops in Keighley with a history of being open for 60 years and still going strong."

The business was founded by Andrew's grandfather, Howard Brook.

Initially he bought two properties in Lawkholme Lane in March 1964, and had made them into a DIY shop by the August – selling paint downstairs and wallpaper upstairs.

Over the years he purchased further properties and gradually knocked them all through to create a larger shop.

Cellars beneath the premises still contain remnants of the past, including old cooking ranges.
