KEIGHLEY-district homeowners could save over 40 per cent off the cost of solar panels under a new scheme.

Residents signing up with neighbours to the initiative, launched by regional mayor Tracy Brabin, will each save around £2,500 on installation costs.

People have until next Friday (September 13) to register.

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is working with sustainable energy firm Solar Together on the venture, part of wider plans to create a 'greener' region.

Ms Brabin says: "By signing up together, residents make it cheaper for the installer to fit the solar panels and batteries across multiple homes at once. These savings are then passed on to the customer.

"We've kickstarted a home energy revolution – a wave of retrofits across West Yorkshire that could see households save money on their energy bills.

"Together with partners such as Solar Together, we will build a greener region."

Marie-Louise Abretti, Solar Together UK business manager, says: "With energy prices continuing to fluctuate, residents are looking for opportunities to reduce their carbon emissions, save on energy bills and increase their independence from the grid.

"This scheme offers a straightforward way to access a competitive offer from a trusted provider."
