A £9 MILLION refurbishment of Keighley's railway station is "progressing well", according to Network Rail.

The company says the overall scheme is on schedule for completion by the end of the year.

Calls were made for years for desperately-needed renovations to be carried out.

John Grogan chaired meetings on the issue in 2018 when he was the town's MP, and his successor Robbie Moore continued to lobby for work to get underway.

Network Rail gave a commitment in 2019 to the refurbishment scheme.

And plans received the green light last year.

Community leaders welcomed the news at the time, and called for the project to go ahead without any further delays.

The scheme includes refurbishment of the canopies at the front of the historic Bradford Road station, plus extensive roof repairs and other structural work to the rest of the building, including the strengthening of footbridges.

A Network Rail spokesperson says: "Work is progressing well.

"We've just completed the majority of the roofing work, and the major structural work was finished several months ago.

"The forecourt is on track to reopen this autumn following refurbishment, and the overall project is due for completion by the end of the calendar year."
