PEOPLE are being given the chance to try morris dancing.

The Flagcrackers of Craven team is staging free taster sessions throughout next month.

Anyone is welcome to attend the sessions, at Farnhill Institute every Wednesday in October, from 7pm.

Flagcrackers of Craven was formed in 1988 and adopted a style of morris known as Border – typified by clogs, sticks, brightly coloured tatter jackets and painted faces.

This year has seen a packed programme for members, who have performed at events throughout the region – from Saltburn to Holmfirth.

Squire of the side, Julie Greenwood, says: "The introductory sessions are a great opportunity for newcomers to experience first-hand the energetic stick-clashing excitement of Border morris dancing.

"It’s a family-friendly activity, which is open to all ages. There is a strong social element to being involved in the side, including travelling to festivals and camping together in the summer.

"We're always looking to grow the side. Everyone is welcome, and this is the perfect time of year for newbies to join so that they have several months to learn the dances ahead of the 2025 season."
