A CELEBRATION of Bookshop Day and visits from leading authors are among activities planned at Haworth in the coming weeks.

Award-winning independent bookshop Wave of Nostalgia has a busy programme lined up.

Events begin with a popular monthly community coffee morning for fans of LGBTQ fiction, in the Book Cellar space at the Main Street bookshop on Saturday (October 5), from 11.30am.

On the evening of Thursday, October 10, author Chloe Dalton is visiting to talk about her memoir, Raising Hare.

Bookshop Day, a UK-wide initiative organised by the Booksellers Association, is being celebrated on Saturday, October 12.

The theme of this year's event is Bookshops Making a Difference.

As part of the venture, a video featuring high-profile authors, and a limited-edition bag designed by Angela Harding, are being launched. And Wave of Nostalgia will host special guests, activities and giveaways.

The following weekend – on Saturday, October 19, at 2pm – locally-based author Liz Flanagan will launch the fourth and final book in her Wildsmith series, Magical Mountain Rescue, for children over six.

And Kate Mosse, one of the UK’s most successful writers of historical fiction, is making a return visit to the village.

She is launching her new novel, The Map of Bones. It is the fourth – and final – instalment of The Joubert Family Chronicles, and follows on from the bestselling The Burning Chambers, The City of Tears and The Ghost Ship.

Set in southern Africa in 1866, her latest book is described as "a sweeping and epic story of adventure and courage, injustice and triumph".

The event is being held at the West Lane Baptist Centre on Sunday, November 3, from 2pm. Kate will read from The Map of Bones, sign copies and answer questions.

Wave of Nostalgia owner, Diane Park, says: "Bookshop Day is central to our events for the next few weeks, showing just how – as an independent bookshop – we can 'make a difference' in our area.

"With events helping the community, entertaining children, supporting the environment and bringing one of the UK’s biggest and best authors for local people to meet, we’re very proud of our planned schedule. Do come along and enjoy it! For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth, many events will also be shared via Zoom."
