A MODEL engineering society is staging its final regular open day of the season next weekend.

Keighley and District Model Engineering Society is running miniature train rides at its Marley track on Sunday, October 20, from around 12.30pm-5pm.

Refreshments will be on sale in the clubhouse.

And the society is once again hosting its Mince Pie Special – weather permitting – on Saturday, December 28.

It has been a busy year for the society, beginning last winter with a project to replace wooden sleepers with concrete ones.

"This will reduce our winter maintenance and provide a smoother ride for passengers," says a spokesperson.

"We have also been working on a new colour light signalling system, which will help us run more trains at the same time.

"This year a number of new members have joined us, which has helped at our open days.

"We've been busy on our public running days, particularly when we opened on Keighley Show day. Booking for birthday parties is also popular, and is often a good introduction to the track for people who've not yet found one of Keighley’s favourite secrets."
