A SECTION of road near Denholme has reopened ahead of schedule following major work to repair a collapsed culvert.

Thornton Road between its junctions with the A644 and A629 was closed on September 16, with an expectancy it would be shut for around two months.

But while some work is still to be done, traffic can once again use the busy route.

Brighouse Road, which was temporarily opened up to two-way traffic to accommodate part of the diversion, has reverted to its one-way status.

And temporary lights, which were in place to manage traffic flows through the diversion at the junction of Brighouse Road and the A629 Halifax Road, have now been removed.

Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport, says: "Because of the depth below the road surface of the culvert, its repair involved major work.

"I would like to thank the crews for getting the job done ahead of schedule, meaning the road can be reopened to traffic. There is still work to do, but reopening the route will help minimise the disruption for drivers and residents."

Funding for the project came from the West Yorkshire Combined Authority's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement.
