HAWORTH is hosting its third annual Santa fun run.

The event is being staged by Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary Club.

Funds raised will benefit charities and other organisations across the Worth Valley.

The run – which takes place on Sunday, December 1 – will once again be focused on Central Park in the village, and follow a circuit of footpaths.

Participants completing 10 laps will clock up five kilometres.

And everyone who finishes will receive a certificate.

Families, including children over six years old, are invited to take part.

The event will be held from 11am to 1pm, with the run starting and finishing adjacent to the bowling club headquarters off Butt Lane, where refreshments will be available for entrants and spectators.

Runners are encouraged to raise money through sponsorship, with proceeds supporting Haworth & Worth Valley Rotary Club's community grant scheme.

The scheme was started, through the club's charitable trust, following the pandemic when £2,000 was made available to support smaller community groups which were struggling to survive.

Small grants are awarded to organisations offering activities within the Worth Valley.

Following the £2,000 distributed as part of the inaugural round of grants, the second instalment saw the funding pot upped to £2,500.

Club president, Peter Oddy, says: "With the Santa fun run, we’re offering something that everybody can enjoy knowing that they will be helping to support organisations that do so much to enrich the Worth Valley community.

"Everybody is welcome to enter, from recognised park runners to family groups, and I’d like to thank the committee at Haworth Bowling Club for its assistance in running this event."

The Santa fun run marks the launch of the Christmas in Haworth programme, which features a packed schedule of festive events and activities in the village.

A torchlight parade takes place on Saturday and Sunday, December 7 and 8. People will meet at the bottom of Main Street at 5.30pm and make their way up the street with lanterns and torches, accompanied by a brass band.

That weekend there is also a Santa's grotto at the Central Park bowling green, between noon and 3pm both days.

Plus a carol service takes place on the Sunday at St Michael & All Angels' Church, starting at 6.30pm. Everyone is welcome.
