HOUSEHOLDERS are warned to be on their guard against would-be burglars.
Police say that as darker nights draw in, there has been a rise in house burglaries – and attempted burglaries – across the district.
A spokesperson says: "Of late, we have seen a few burglaries where the suspects have entered homes through unlocked doors.
"Please try to get into a routine of ensuring that your doors and windows are locked before going to bed, and keep your doors secured even when you are at home through the day.
"Also, make sure you remove any keys from the locks.
"There have been a few 'sneak in' burglaries daytime and early evening, when the victims have been at home.
"It only takes seconds for an opportunist criminal to enter a home and remove valuables and car keys."
