COUNCIL bosses have pledged their commitment to tackling safety concerns on a Steeton road.
Residents in Redcar Lane say that there have been countless accidents over the years and despite repeated calls for action, nothing has been done.
But Bradford Council has told the Keighley News it's aware of the concerns, and that funding is in place to draw up measures aimed at addressing the issues.
Adam Wilkinson – of Westy Bank Croft, in Redcar Lane – says: "We live on a corner and have had several instances where cars have come off the road and crashed. There have been multiple incidents like this over the last few years.
"We've pushed Bradford Council and West Yorkshire Police to get something done, but nothing ever happens.
"It is only a matter of time before someone, either driving a vehicle or an innocent pedestrian walking along the lane, is seriously injured or killed. Does it have to result in a death or serious injury for action to be taken?".
The concerns have been raised with Keighley MP, Robbie Moore.
He says: "The situation in Redcar Lane has been an ongoing issue for residents for too long, and people are rightly worried for their safety.
"Earlier this year, Bradford Council’s highways team told residents that 'funding has been secured through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement Safe Road budget' to undertake traffic-calming work, yet it seems unclear what this funding has achieved. I am continuing to push the council for an urgent update on the situation."
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw – Bradford Council’s executive member for regeneration, planning and transport – says: "We are aware of the safety concerns in this area.
"The funding is in place, and we are in the process of developing a comprehensive scheme to address the issues.
"The proposed scheme will include a review of speed limits, road markings and traffic signs along Redcar Lane and will involve a detailed assessment of current traffic conditions, incorporating feedback from residents and local stakeholders.
"We have already conducted two residents’ meetings – facilitated by the ward councillors – to gather feedback and are working closely with West Yorkshire Police and other relevant partners to ensure that appropriate measures are put in place to enhance safety and mitigate the risk of further incidents. This update has already been provided to the local MP, so it is unclear what further update he requires."
