A CROSS Hills chemical company is stepping up its environmental efforts.

Airedale Group has pledged 200 hours of volunteer time to support the Aire Rivers Trust.

The move formalises a commitment by the firm to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2045.

Airedale Group managing director, Richard Ward, says: "Over recent years we've implemented many projects to increase sustainability and lessen our impact on the environment, from the installation of solar panels to creating wildflower areas in the local park.

"But with the launch of our 'net zero by 2045' journey, we wanted to mark the occasion with something special that really demonstrates our commitment to making a difference.

"Aire Rivers Trust seemed the perfect partner. Its work directly impacts the immediate environment of our headquarters; we work closely with Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency and have many customers in the water treatment industry."

Gareth Muir, project officer at the trust, welcomes the partnership.

He adds: "The support we receive from businesses like Airedale Group is invaluable, and the activities it's taking part in are instrumental in making a significant impact on our environment.

"The company has already helped maintain grass and wildflower areas, paint railings, pick up litter and cut hedges, and we’re looking forward to seeing what the team can help us achieve over the coming months."
