A HOST of events is planned over the coming weeks by an award-winning independent bookshop.
On the afternoon of Wednesday, November 20, Wave of Nostalgia – in Main Street, Haworth – welcomes Kate Fox, an author of history and poetry books and a regular on BBC Radio 4.
She will lead a creative writing and poetry workshop – suitable for all levels of writer, from beginners to the more experienced – focusing on wellbeing. The session will include a mixture of fun, practical exercises and prompts. The cost is £10.
And that evening, she will talk about her new poetry collection, On Sycamore Gap.
Locally-based Michael Stewart will be launching his latest historical novel, The Black Wood Women, on Thursday, November 28, at 7pm.
Michael is a multi-award-winning author of novels and short story and poetry collections, and writes plays for radio and theatre.
His previous books include Ill Will, Walking the Invisible and The Dogs.
A free children's event takes place on Saturday, November 30, at 2pm, when author Harry Heape will talk – and read stories – about mystery-solving shaggy dog adventurer Indian Bones and his owner Aisha, and 'take' youngsters on a journey with Pippin to the Magic Forest.
Wave of Nostalgia activities for December will begin with a visit from Alison Barrow, a public relations director with the world’s biggest book publisher, Penguin Random House.
At the event – on Wednesday, December 4, at 7pm – she will answer questions about how books are commissioned, selected, printed and promoted.
She will also suggest why some books become best sellers, while others may struggle, and speak about a selection of forthcoming titles to look out for.
Wave of Nostalgia owner Diane Park says she is delighted with the events line up.
She adds: "The really thrilling thing about this programme is the number of firsts for us.
"Not only have we two great new book events with high-profile authors Michael and Kate, we also host our first writing workshop and most excitingly welcome Alison Barrow – one of the top influencers in the book world – for local book fans to meet.
"Do come along and enjoy the activities.
"For anyone who can’t make it to Haworth, many events will also be shared on Zoom."
