TICKETS are now on sale for a major Keighley event forming part of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture.

An award-winning production of The Railway Children is being performed next summer.

The Mike Kenny stage adaptation of E Nesbit's classic novel will take to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway from July 16 to September 7.

It's the first time the York Theatre Royal Olivier Award-winning show has visited the five-mile line since the production premiered in 2008.

A spokesperson says: "The show will begin when you board a steam train at Keighley, then travel the full length of the railway.

"When you reach the end of the line at Oxenhope, you’ll find a purpose-built auditorium within the station’s Engine Shed – and a new version of this classic production, which tells the story of three children forced to move from London to Yorkshire after their father is falsely imprisoned.

"Suitable for theatregoers of all ages, this wonderful production is not to be missed."

Next year will mark the 55th anniversary of the timeless movie version of The Railway Children, which was filmed on the Worth Valley line.

The film helped catapult the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway to international stardom.

Tickets are also now available for the Big Brass Blowout, which takes place at venues across the district between April 11 and 13.

Black Dyke Band, BD1 Brass and City of Bradford Brass Band will be amongst those performing.

The spokesperson says: "The Big Brass Blowout is bringing together a variety of class brass acts for three glorious days and nights of music.

"From traditional tunes to afrobeat rhythms, much-loved classics to one-off collaborations, expect the unexpected as Bradford 2025 spotlights the power, versatility and all-round brilliance of the great British brass band."

And on May 9, Bassline Symphony is being held at St George’s Hall, Bradford.

Keighley woman Shanaz Gulzar, creative director of Bradford 2025 UK City of Culture, says: "Bradford 2025 is all about showcasing the incredible diversity and culture of our district, and our programme really sets the tone for what’s to come.

"From an immersive performance of The Railway Children to the energy of our bassline scene and brass bands, we’re celebrating Bradford’s rich heritage while pushing boundaries with new creative collaborations. Our year-long cultural celebration will be truly special."
