KEIGHLEY housing group Incommunities is urging pension-age tenants to check they're claiming all benefit entitlements.

And Incommunities' Money Matters team is offering support to help people complete applications, and where applicable, get benefits backdated.

Emma Warden, for the team, says: "Across the country, more than 800,000 people in receipt of a lower income are eligible to claim pension credit but aren’t. For many it may be because they don’t know they’re entitled to it, while others might be put off by the application forms involved.

"We want to tell our customers that we’re here to help.

"If you’re state pension age, or within four months of it, we can start your application. You can still have savings and qualify for pension credit, which many people aren’t aware of."

She adds that the winter fuel payment is amongst a number of benefits that someone on pension credit automatically qualifies for.

Others include subsidised – or an exemption from – council tax, contributions towards rent payments and help with NHS dental treatment.

Incommunities customers seeking further information and help to apply for pension credit, or any other benefit, should visit incommunities.co.uk/money-matters or call 0330 1759540 and speak to the Money Matters team.
