A KEIGHLEY singer-songwriter has produced a Christmas charity single and video.

Sam Clegg is using the project to spotlight the themes of loss and loneliness amongst older people.

Each 79p purchase of the song goes directly to charities Re-engage and Friends of the Elderly.

Within 24 hours of Send Me a Sign being launched, it had attracted over 400,000 views on TikTok and received thousands of shares on YouTube.

"The response has been incredible," says Sam, 26.

"It has truly restored my faith in the empathy and kindness within our nation.

"The video – which is inspired by the John Lewis Christmas adverts – is intended to focus attention on the impact loss and loneliness can have on the elderly, an issue which often gets overlooked in mainstream advertising.

"The story centres around the idea that 'robins are here when loved ones are near', symbolising hope and connection, even in our darkest moments.

"My main aim is to raise money for two charities which support elderly people facing loneliness. Re-engage and Friends of the Elderly both play an essential role in bringing companionship and a sense of belonging to older adults who might otherwise feel isolated. Their work is crucial in fostering connection, especially during the festive season when many feel left out."

Sam – who has been creating songs for over a decade – wrote, recorded and produced the single from his home.

And as a videographer, he also scripted, directed, filmed and edited the video.

He completed the whole project on a budget of under £500.

Sam adds: "As an artist born and raised in Keighley this project has meant a lot to me and I filmed scenes for the video in areas close to my heart – including Cullingworth, Oxenhope Moor and Haworth – to add a touch of local scenery and capture the warmth and spirit of our community.

"To help bring the vision to life, I also combined real footage of a robin with computer-generated imagery."

The song and video have attracted more than 1,800 comments on YouTube.

One said: "What a brilliant advert with such a strong message! It’s amazing you pulled this off for under £500 and created the song, lyrics and video yourself."
