A KEIGHLEY firm has once again launched a Christmas decorations appeal to help spread festive sparkle.

Pickard Hardware is collecting pre-loved decorations which will be distributed to individuals, families and community groups in the area.

The initiative is being staged following the success of similar appeals in recent years.

Previous beneficiaries have included care homes, a school and families forced to flee their homes in Ukraine.

Members of the Pickard Hardware team have already collected some donated items, but more are sought.

Goods such as artificial Christmas trees, fairy lights, tinsel, baubles and ornaments are welcome.

They can be taken along to the firm's Airedale Road premises, and left with Zarina Toothill on the sales counter, weekdays between 8am and 5pm or Saturdays 9am to 1pm. Free parking is available at the site.

All electrical items will be safety tested prior to distribution.

The company is also keen to hear from anyone representing people or organisations that may benefit from free decorations.

Requests should be sent to finance manager Jane Anderton, on jane@pickardhardware.com

Priority will be given to people and organisations in the Keighley area.

Pickard Hardware managing director, Dale Spencer, says: "This is a perfect opportunity for the community to work together, support those in need and prevent unwanted Christmas decorations going to landfill.

"We know that many of us are guilty of throwing away perfectly good products, so this scheme enables any unwanted decorations to be passed on to those that may not able to afford their own. It’s a win-win.

"The initiative is a great tribute to our late founder, John Pickard, who was known for his kindness and support of the community.

"We are very aware that the cost-of-living crisis is affecting many people in Keighley, and their money may need to be prioritised for living essentials this Christmas. John would have loved to see how many people we have helped."

Last year's recipients included Skipton and Craven Ukrainian Refugee Support Group.

A spokesperson says: "We received and distributed six lots of trees and decorations for Ukrainian refugee families in the area.

"For many of our families, a Christmas tree was just a luxury they couldn’t afford.

"Families were over the moon with the generosity and kindness of Pickard's and are so grateful to those who donated.

"The children had big smiles on their faces."
