AN Oxenhope Primary School pupil diagnosed with type 1 diabetes has been raising funds to help other children with the condition.
When Finley Denby, nine, learned in September of his diabetes, he was given a Rufus bear.
The bears – funded by Breakthrough T1D, brand name for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation – are designed to help children come to terms with their diagnosis, and show them the best places to inject insulin.
Now Finley, a Year 5 pupil, has staged an in-school fundraiser in support of the charity.
He held a 'name the bear' competition, which raised just over £100.
The proceeds should help fund nearly a dozen more Rufus bears for other children.
Breakthrough T1D's work includes research to treat, prevent and cure type 1 diabetes, and it campaigns to promote access to better treatments and technologies for all those with the condition.
