MOTORISTS are being warned by police not to leave their vehicle unattended with the engine running.
The message follows an incident in Keighley yesterday morning (November 18).
A Vauxhall Corsa was left with its engine running to help defrost the vehicle.
"Upon their return the victim discovered the engine was no longer running and the keys had been stolen," says a West Yorkshire Police spokesperson.
"Whilst the victim was lucky the car wasn't taken, they now have to have the locks/ignition replaced.
"Please don't leave your vehicle unattended with the engine running, no matter how briefly. It only takes seconds for an opportunist thief to strike."
The incident happened in Highfield Lane, at around 8.45am.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the police on 101, quoting crime occurrence 13240628323.
