A MAJOR campaign is being launched in Keighley encouraging people to 'shop local'.
The initiative aims to boost support for the town's independent businesses in the crucial Christmas period.
Behind the venture is Keighley Business Improvement District (BID), which is urging residents and visitors to pledge their backing.
From this Saturday (November 23), people spending in at least three independent businesses in the town will have the chance of winning prizes.
By getting special cards stamped, shoppers could bag themselves £750 in vouchers – or smaller prizes of £250, £100 or £20.
"This initiative is designed to support and celebrate our unique independent businesses," says Keighley BID manager, Sarah Broadbent.
"By taking part you’re not just shopping, you are contributing to the local economy and supporting business owners who are the backbone of our community.
"The vouchers you can win may be spent at any participating independent business, allowing the spirit of giving to continue."
Stamp cards can be picked up from the civic centre, Royal Arcade, Airedale Shopping Centre or participating businesses, which will display a sticker or poster in their windows.
The campaign – which runs until December 31 – is being backed by the town's MP, Robbie Moore.
He says: "Every purchase from an independent business makes a huge difference, contributing to a stronger local economy, sustaining jobs and ensuring our businesses and the hardworking residents who run them can continue to thrive.
"Keighley’s independent businesses are here for us all year round, so in the run-up to Small Business Saturday – on November 30 – and the Christmas holidays, it's more important than ever that we shop local."
This Saturday also sees the launch of a free Christmas Nutcracker Trail, in which people can follow a special map to uncover 22 festive pictures around the town. Trail booklets will be available from the civic centre, Royal Arcade and Airedale Shopping Centre.
