KEIGHLEY MP Robbie Moore has pledged his backing to the area's farmers in the battle against inheritance tax plans.
He has met with members of the farming community locally to discuss the controversial proposals.
Under the Government scheme, from April 2026 inherited agricultural assets worth more than £1m – which were previously exempt – will be subject to inheritance tax at 20 per cent.
The Treasury claims that 500 farms a year out of around 200,000 will be affected, but farmers' groups say up to 70,000 will be impacted over time.
Mr Moore says: "It was great to meet with farmers from across the constituency to hear their concerns regarding the impact Labour’s plans will have on their businesses.
"All of them are multi-generational family farming businesses, with sons, daughters and grandchildren keen to stay in farming. They have worked hard all their lives to put good quality food on our plates.
"They are deeply worried that the family farm tax and other tax increases being brought forward will not only end family farming but also severely impact the viability of British food production.
"I will work tirelessly to stop Labour’s assault on our farmers, rural economy and food security."
