STORM Bert failed to pull the plug on Keighley's Christmas lights switch on.
The extravaganza went ahead this afternoon, although there were some concessions to the weather.
The town council had announced yesterday that due to the conditions, including a Met Office yellow warning for wind and rain, activities would be moved indoors. And a planned fireworks display was cancelled.
But entertainment, stalls and the switch on itself – originally earmarked for Church Green and adjacent streets – were all held in the Airedale Shopping Centre.
And crowds turned out in force for the event.
"A huge 'thank you' to the Airedale Shopping Centre for allowing us to relocate," said a town council spokesperson.
The packed programme began late morning and ran throughout the afternoon.
There were performances from Rock Choir; Craig Carlisle; talent contest winners Cheyenne Smith, Minnie Wilson and Emily Walker; BOLT Academy; The Veese; Marigold Addams; The Trilogies and international saxophonist Ellie Sax, who switched on the lights, accompanied by town mayor Councillor Gulfraz Hussain and Santa.
World-acclaimed saxophone player Ellie has performed at top events, from the Monaco Grand Prix to Glastonbury.
Other attractions included Christmas market and charity stalls, and free festive wreath making.
Plus there was Buddy the elf, stilt walkers and Santa with his elves.
On Church Green there were children's rides.
