A COMMUNITY stalwart who marked his 85th birthday with a charity headshave has revealed the final fundraising total.
Maurice Baren, from Haworth, coined-in cash for two causes – Action for Children and the Rotary charity, End Polio Now.
For every £1 raised towards the Rotary cause, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation donated £2.
Now Maurice, who took part in the headshave two years ago, has been given the final total – just over £28,000.
Action for Children received £7,802.
And £20,371, including the foundation contribution, was raised for End Polio Now.
"I've been given the final figures after receiving details of gift aid and the generous funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation," says Maurice.
"I'm delighted with the total and would like to thank everyone who gave their support to make this possible. Without their generosity, so many more children would be at risk from disease or harm."
