Volunteers from the Keighley area are being sought to help adults with learning disabilities.

Bradford Council’s volunteering unit needs people to assist with Keighley day services.

The five groups operating locally are the Temple Row project, Strawberry Street Arts and Craft Centre, The Gatehouse, New Shoots allotments at Upper Hird Street and Airedale Skills for Employment in Marley Street.

The groups run weekdays from 9am-4pm and volunteers can give as much time as they wish.

Councillor Dale Smith, the council’s executive member for social care, said: “Volunteering not only helps the service but gives volunteers the experience and skills that can help them move into paid work in a similar area, or to gain a place on a university or college course.

“Volunteers also find it rewarding and a lot of fun to expand their own horizons while spending their time helping other people.”

Applicants do not need any experience and will receive full training, support and travel expenses. They will have to undergo child protection and criminal record bureau checks.
