Age Concern is expanding its successful information and advice service for over 50s in Keighley.
The major expansion will see the well-used service rebranded as “Starting Point”.
The charity gave out advice and information to 2,270 older people in Keighley last year.
Many of the people visited Age Concern’s shop in North Street for advice. Others used the charity’s online database, which was launched last February.
The charity’s staff and volunteers trained more than 1,000 older people in computer skills such as the Internet and email.
New staff member Brian Hodgson will work on Starting Point’s information service.
He gives talks and presentations to organisations across Bradford district, mostly in the Keighley area.
Keith Nathan, Age Concern’s chief officer for Bradford district, expected much of Starting Point’s expansion to be via PCs. Many older people use special PCs installed in local care homes by Age Concern.
He said: “People can use the technology to access our own and other services.”
Bradford Council is funding the service.
Later this year Age Concern will put online its Home Services listings, which include spring cleaning, handy-people and health equipment services.
People can ask for help at the Age Concern shop, at 7 North Street, during working hours, without making an appointment, or phone 01535 610100.
They can also ask about free computer training, which is given one-to-one by volunteers.
Anyone wishing to invite Mr Hodgson to give a talk should phone him on 07736 872278 or via 01535 610100.
