Pupils and staff from several Keighley schools have been recognised in an annual health and economic wellbeing awards ceremony.

The event, held by Education Bradford, saw six schools in the town rewarded along with two businesses and Keighley Library.

Two Greenhead pupils, Akash Hussain and Sara Scott, received a personal advisor young people’s achievement award.

A spokesman for Education Bradford said: “Through the support of an advisor, their attendance and behaviour has improved significantly.

“They have been more engaged with their education, which means they now have the potential to leave school with better qualifications.”

Venetia Fitch, from Branshaw School, received the Enterprising Teacher Award for her work in developing key stage four enterprise activity days and ensuring that work-related learning was inclusive for students regardless of their learning difficulties.

Holy Family School was recognised for its efforts linking pupils with relevant work experience and, in particular, pupil Gabrielle Catlow was rewarded.

Sainsbury’s and Openskies, in Keighley, won in the Business Supporting Schools category and Ann Quinlan, from Keighley Library, was recognised for community commitment for family learning.

A spokesman for Education Bradford said: “This award has been given because since October 2007, Ann has worked with us on five family learning courses where they have recruited consistently high numbers of learners form a wide range of diverse community backgrounds.”
