Pupils from two local schools have demonstrated their economic flair at enterprise challenge days.

Parkside School, in Cullingworth, and Parkwood Primary School, in Keighley, were both victorious in their sections of the Children’s University Enterprise Challenge Days.

Parkside competed against 14 other secondary schools from Bradford district at the Bradford Bulls Grattan Stadium.

And Parkwood successfully participated against six other primary schools at Cougar Park.

Both days were organised in conjunction with Link Telecom, Young Enterprise and the Bradford Bulls Foundation.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “This is designed to show an insight into the business world and develop economic wellbeing, as well as being enjoyable.”

Groups of year seven pupils from Parkside and year five pupils from Parkwood took part in a competition called ‘the trading game’.

This saw each school represent a country with resources in the form of items such as scissors and pencils.

They then “made money” by cutting up paper into different shapes, with each shape representing a different sum of cash.

They traded valuable resources with their rivals to enable them to make even more money.

Parkside and Parkwood both proved themselves masters of the global trading system, ending up with more cash than any other school team.

Their pupils were presented with certificates, jigsaw puzzles and souvenir prize rugby balls to reward their achievement.
