Thrill-seeking Malsis School pupils abseiled off a Sunderland museum for charity.

Thirty-eight pupils, parents and staff abseiled 80 feet off the National Glass Centre to raise money for the Royal British Legion.

And together with other fundraising efforts, the Glusburn school raised £790 for the Skipton RBL.

Headmaster Marcus Peel said: “We do a lot of outdoor pursuits at Malsis, including climbing and descending our 30ft-high rope tree equipment in the grounds, but the children have never done anything quite like this.

“They all loved it and I was very proud that no one bottled out at the last minute.”

Sam Phillipson, 13, who has just been awarded a sports scholarship to Rugby School, presented the cheque to Alex Bentley, chairman of Skipton RBL.

Mr Bentley said: “The children have been very brave and raised a lot of money — money that is crucial to help those who sacrifice so much for their country.

“I was also very impressed at how much they know about the wars, Remembrance Day and current conflicts.”

As well as the abseil, the school raised money through chapel collections and buying poppies instead of sweets.
