Cross Roads Cub Scouts are supporting Haworth Cat Rescue.

Youngsters from the 8th Keighley (Cross Roads) pack held a bring-and-buy sale at Lees Primary School in aid of the charity.

The venture was part of the Cubs’ Community Challenge badge.

One of the youngsters, Imogen Gillespie, said: “I know some people are unkind to cats because I’ve heard it on the news, so as part of my Community Challenge badge I wanted to help by collecting money for them and giving it to Haworth Cat Rescue. I know cats help lots of people because I know how happy my mum was when she was sick in bed and our cat Conkers stayed with her all day to look after her while I was at school.”

Cub Jordan Pullen said he liked cats and so was taking part in the bring-and-buy to help sell the books and toys on offer.

Haworth Cat Rescue campaign manager Corinne Moore, who attended the event, said it was wonderful to see so many youngsters interested in discovering more about animal welfare and doing what they could to help the area’s unwanted cats.

She added: “They all persuaded me to buy a little teddy holding a red heart and decided to charge me £1 when they heard about our “In For A Pound” campaign — and told me to give the teddy to our cats for Valentine’s Day!”

The charity provides shelter and medical care for abandoned, lost and feral cats and kittens. It has recently launched a £2 million appeal to construct a purpose-built centre.
