Keighley Voluntary Services is taking a “measured” approach to combining work in Keighley and Ilkley, says its boss.

Chief officer Caroline Schwaller said local voluntary and community groups would see subtle changes over time.

KVS, the support agency for Keighley’s voluntary sector, took over Ilkley Council for Voluntary Services last November.

Ilkley CVS, founded in 1976, decided to transfer its assets after unsuccessful attempts to secure enough funding to continue independently.

The organisation provided services such as funding advice, office facilities and support for community groups across Wharfedale.

On taking over, the two organisations pledged a smooth transition, continuation of local services and a commitment to supporting local groups.

The two groups’ newsletters — which go to hundreds of groups across the Keighley constituency — have now combined.

Ms Schwaller, writing in the latest issue of KVS News, said there were many things to consider regarding the merger.

She said KVS had to ensure all parts of the constituency received an equal level of services and support in the most cost-effective way.

She said: “We are taking a measured approach to combining the work of the two organisations.

“In addition to reviewing our information services, it includes a review of our membership requirements.”

Ms Schwaller said the combined newsletter could expand further to focus on other areas, such as Haworth and Silsden.

She added: “We would like to ensure our services are more accessible to rural communities.”

KVS is also considering holding networking, information and training sessions in such places, as well as central Keighley and Ilkley.
