A total of 75 crimes were reported in Oxenhope parish during 2008.

The figure was revealed by police sergeant Mark Wheeler, of the Bingley and Worth Valley neighbourhood policing team.

He said the crimes included 13 instances of criminal damage, six burglaries, four thefts from vehicles and 52 miscellaneous crimes, including other thefts, public disorder and traffic offences.

He said last month the only reported offences had been two thefts from vehicles and one of criminal damage.

He added the police were concentrating on specific parts of the village, including the park and Station Road, in order to reduce anti-social behaviour.

He said they had identified the minority of young people responsible and warned them they faced incurring anti-social behaviour orders.

Cllr Cameron said reporting crimes to the police over the phone was still very time consuming.

He said earlier this year, because of calls going unanswered or officers being unavailable, he had to make about 15 phone calls to report one incident of criminal damage.

Sgt Wheeler urged him and other residents to call the policing team’s landline at Bingley first, then try the mobile numbers of him and his Worth Valley colleagues.
