Shire horses will be among the attractions at an event being staged to raise funds for Keighley Show.

The spring horse show — on April 26 — is the first in a series of fundraising activities planned between now and the summer.

The events are to help offset the loss of income following the cancellation of last year’s Keighley Show. It had to be called off days before it was due to go ahead after heavy rain left the Marley showground sodden.

The horse show — being held at Aireview Equestrian Centre, in Harden Road, Long Lee — will feature a wide range of classes, including in hand, lead rein and ridden classes for show pony, hunter, mountain and moorland cob and coloured, plus the shires.

Money will be raised through entry fees to the classes and donations on the day will be welcomed from the visiting public.

Organisers are keen to hear from any companies interested in offering sponsorship, whatever the amount, or horse-related products.

Further information will be available soon from Paddy Ahern, at the Aireview centre, on 01535 665055, Keighley Show membership secretary Maggie Smith, on micsmith@btinternet.com or 01535 655642 (after 7pm), or horse section secretary Judith Naylor, on 01535 653923.
