A special school has taken part in the Education Bradford Trade Fair for the first time.

Braithwaite School had a stall at the fair in Bradford to sell items made by its students.

They joined schools from across the district, including Branshaw School, also in Keighley.

The various stalls sold items like recycled handbags, buns, organic garlic, cards, artwork and key rings. Vivia Tizard, Braithwaite’s acting deputy head, said the students were well prepared due to a well-developed enterprising approach.

Vivia said: “This is just part of a bigger enterprise approach that the school takes all year round.

“We make and sell our own cards, cakes and biscuits in school.

“We also have an allotment producing vegetables. In school we can grow plants such as hyacinths.

“The students enjoy being active and learning new skills at the same time.”

Venetia Fitch, deputy head of Branshaw, said the trade fair was a great idea and built on the school’s year-round enterprising work.

She said: “It happens naturally as we use events like this to help us afford extra things like days out for the students.”
