A small amount of white powder found at an address in South Craven was amphetamine, a court heard.

Kevin Tones, 37, of Main Street, Cross Hills, appeared before Skipton Magistrates on Friday and pleaded guilty to possessing the class B drug on October 15 last year.

Prosecuting, Alison Whiteley told the bench that on October 15 the police executed a drugs warrant at the defendant’s home and various items were found, including a small amount of white powder. A drugs test confirmed it was amphetamine.

On October 29 Tones was arrested and interviewed. In interview he admitted the offences saying the substance was for his own personal use.

Mrs Whiteley made an application for forfeiture and confiscation of the drug.

Defending, Glen Maude said that Tones, a father of four school-age children, had admitted the drug was for his own use but said the amount in question was so small it could not be quantified.

Magistrates fined him £75 for the offence and ordered the drug be forfeited and destroyed.

Tones was also asked to pay £45 court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

A further charge of cultivating four cannabis plants was withdrawn.
