The Sheriff of West Yorkshire has arrived in town to “engage in the heart of the community” and get young people involved in policing.

Roger Bowers has been doing the rounds with Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, in a mission to engage youths in grassroots policing.

The Quest initiative, run by Mr Bowers and Chief Constable Sir Norman Bettison, targets people aged between five and 25 — with grants of up to £100 available on some schemes.

During his Keighley visit on Monday, Mr Bowers went on patrol with police officers and chatted to local residents about issues in the community.

Insp Wayne Horner, of Keighley Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We have been delighted to welcome Mr Bowers to Keighley and take him on patrol with our officers in the town to show him the area and make him aware of local issues.

“Neighbourhood policing is a core part of what we do in West Yorkshire Police and it has been good to show the High Sheriff the positive community work we carry out here.”

The role of High Sheriff is an unpaid ceremonial position appointed by the Crown.
